Introduction
This interactive catalog and resource guide contains a selection of Spanish language materials from W&L Special Collections and Archive identified and described by students in Professor Julia Hernández's Spanish classes during the 2021-2022 academic year. The catalog records are available in Spanish and English.
As a course project, each student selected an object and conducted research on the physical aspects, publication information, and textuality of the work. Each course worked with a selection of objects relevant to the course's topic and themes. In addition to research and writing the catalog entry, students also selected a "glamour shot" so that the object's best features would be on display in addition to the title page and other representative images.
The goals of the project were to:
- Explore the materiality of the Spanish-language Book.
- Consider the relationship between the materiality and textuality of the book.
- Learn about WLU Special Collections.
- Engage in public scholarship and digital humanities through the creation of an online library exhibition and resource guide for student, faculty, and community researchers interested in Spanish at W&L.
- Promote use of Spanish on campus and in the community through official W&L online outlets.
All materials are available for access by contacting Leyburn Library Special Collections & Archives.
